AlphaBeta@OmegaPhiBeta.org Alpha Beta chapter’s Softball Tournament “A League of Their Own” New York, NY...August 22, 2017 -On Saturday, August 12, 2017, at Van Cortlandt Park, the Alpha Beta Chapter of Omega Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. had their first annual Softball Tournament, “A League of Their Own.” Over 100 people attended and participated in the softball games, which helped Alpha Beta raise over $1,300 for their partner organization and official beneficiary, The Violence Intervention Program, Inc. (VIP Mujeres). VIP Mujeres is a community based non-profit organization dedicated to the eradication of domestic and intimate partner violence. The round-robin style tournament had seven teams, (The Bronx Outlaws, K.A.O.S. Heavy Hitters, St. Vincent’s Hospital, Alcobalics, The Sigmas, and The Catching Fires). The games lasted seven hours and The Bronx Outlaws prevailed with a score of 12-2 against the Heavy Hitters. The Bronx Outlaws were not the only winners of the day. Three raffle ticket winners won $75 and $50 gift cards to Havana Central thanks to one of our donors and another person won two tickets to Alpha Beta’s annual semi-formal cocktail party/fundraiser, E.N.C.A.N.T.O, which is slated to be held on October 14, 2017 at Inwood Bar and Grill. Kelly Guajardo, VIP’s Communications and Policy Manager attended the event alongside other staff members of VIP, including their Executive Director, Cecilia Gaston and stated that, “OPBSI expertly leverages their network to both increase awareness around domestic violence and raise money for the life-saving services organizations such as VIP provide to survivors. It was beautiful to see so many men, women, and even children up early on Saturday morning to play softball for a meaningful cause. We are endlessly grateful for our partnership with OPBSI’s Alpha Beta Chapter—true champions in the movement to end domestic violence.” The Alpha Beta Chapter is extremely thankful to everyone who supported this fundraiser and looks forward to hosting this event again next year. Congratulations to the 2017 Champions of “A League of Their Own” Co-ed Softball Tournament: The Bronx Outlaws!
